Becoming a follower of Jesus

International Bible Church believes the Bible translated from its original text is the inspired Word of God. It is without error and completely reliable for teaching God's plan for the redemption of man and providing instruction for holy living. (2 Timothy 3:16)

The Bible explains God's desire for all men to live a life of peace with the Creator while enjoying the benefits of abundant living and eternal life. However, if this is God's desire why are so many people today not experiencing this type of existence? (Romans 5:1, John 10:10, John 3:16)

God's Word teaches every person has sinned thus by definition we are all sinners. Unfortunately, our sin carries a heavy penalty, separation from God. (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23)

Throughout history mankind has tried to repair thier broken relationship with God in various ways. Some of man's attempts include religion, good works and philosophy. However, the Bible states that these actions in and of themselves are not sufficient to repair the broken relationship with God that our sin has caused. Fortunately in the midst of such difficult reality there is good news. God loves each of us so much that He refused to leave us alone in this condition. God has provided the solution to our problem. (Isaiah 64:4, Romans 5:8)

The Bible teaches that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and that no man can have a relationship with God apart from Jesus. While the world teaches that there are several roads that lead to God, the Bible teaches that there is only one. That way is Jesus Christ. (John 14:6, 1 Timothy 2:5)

What does the Bible teach a person should do with such news concerning Jesus? The answer is as simple as ABC. A person that wants to become a follower of Jesus must first admit he is a sinner that needs God's forgiveness. The next step is to believe that Jesus is the Son of God; He died on the cross for our sins, was buried in a tomb, and after three days He was resurrected from the dead. The final step is to confess Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. The Bible states that if we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead we will be saved. (Romans 10:9-10)
